    Read excerpt

Welcome to this special issue of The Fig Tree commemorating the centenary of the General Strike of 1926. These poems are all unpublished, and inspired by Union activity, labour disputes and social justice stretching back almost 200 years.Later this year Crooked Spire Press will publish an anthology including these poems and others that were submitted, together with song lyrics, both traditional and modern. I have turned to Nick Allen, a contributor to the Fig Tree who is active in the Trade Unio
