Folk Music & The Church: Part 2 (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Folk music’s importance to the Church begins with poetry’s importance, which I will not discuss at length because Sally Read has done so perfectly in her selection 100 Great Catholic Poems from Word on Fire. She asserts that poetry is in fact “the language of Catholicism,” wherein poetic devices are made true in the tangible sacramentality of our faith. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned, especially in the past year or so, is that God is incredibly creative in answering our prayers - both those that we share with him and those that we hide out of fear or doubt or shame.
