Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) Film Review (opens the original)
Read excerpt
I'm pretty much the hardest sell for this movie. I don't like Spider-man as a character, or particularly the films, especially the zany comic stylings and whiny teen angst of the Tom Holland era, I've found all three of his previous movies poor. And once again the Spidey-bros are out in force claiming it to be the Citizen Kane of MCU. So why is it actually great?! And it actually replaces Guardians OTG 3 as the best post Endgame project.
The Strokes - Reality Awaits (2026) Album Review (opens the original)
Read excerpt
After the amazing best in years come-back that was The New Abnormal, their wildest and most aggravating album yet. Their are many fine, fleet-footed, classic sounding Strokes songs here, that just about rescues things. But it's never dull. The elephant in the room however is the far too liberal use of auto-tune, that completely ruins several tracks and should be shot into the sun. Especially as Casablancas sounds great when it's switched off.
Phoebe Bridgers - Lost Weekend (2026) Album Review (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Phoebe Bridgers sits at the epicenter of the modern music critics happy place, so it's not surprising to see universal acclaim for what is basically cat nip form them. Lost Weekend is a perfectly fine album but screaming album of the year at it is crazy. It's often too woolly, to samey, too homogenized in mood, tone, instrumentation and the songwriting is occasionally great but often fairly listless and the lyrics often a bit, well, trite and obvious.
It Ends (2026) Film Review (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The latest zero budget "IT" horror, is really neither the horror or comedy it's tagged as. Rather this four friends on a road trip to hell movie is an existential meditation on the search for meaning to life, along the extended metaphor of an endless road. It's closer to something like Jorge Luis Borges short story, The Library of Babel.
Mutiny (2026) Movie Review (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The latest Jason Statham actioner is a welcome straight forward 1980's Jean Claude Van Damme action flick. Sadly it doesn't embellish or develop that premise in any direction.
