In chapter 2 of ‘Pedagogy of the Oppressed,’ Paulo Freire, an educator and philosopher quotes, “oppression—overwhelming control—is necrophilic; it is nourished by love of death, not life.” A sentence like that requires us to look back on our history, where for the last hundred years or so, African death, and non white deaths have been deemed inconsequential.
