Analyzing Sane Power, Destabilizing the Psychiatric Frame (opens the original)
Read excerpt
This piece is a sneak preview of an essay I’m currently working on, titled “Compulsory Sanity and Mad Existence.” This is the draft of a section of the article in which I urge Mad studies to expand its focus beyond psychiatry. I plan to submit the larger article to a journal. I’m currently raising funds to cover my medical bills from my recent suicide attempt. I managed to raise the funds for the ICU stay and psychiatric hospital, but I still have about $300 left to raise for my ambulance ride.

I am reeling from a completed suicide attempt, during which I overdosed on thousands of milligrams of Lexapro. I was in critical condition, at high risk of death, was in the ICU and was intubated. It was precipitated by an abusive relationship, the second one in a period of two years. It follows my social murder

Inscribing transness with insanity, an
