The Race Against Time: Saving the Painted Ceilings of Blenheim Palace. (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Above the vast marble columns and thousands of eager visitors each year, Sir James Thornhill’s masterful painting has kept watch over Blenheim’s great entrance hall, and all that passed through it, for more than 300 years. Louis Laguerre made his mark on the new estate with his renowned ‘Battle of Blenheim’ work. Both murals are synonymous with Blenheim Palace. They help tell stories rooted in British history, utilising the theatrical style of Baroque (which is, itself, synonymous with that era)
