Elementary, my dear… Oysterville’s Salute to Labor Day: The works! (As in the whole shebang!) - Chinook Observer (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Published 7:54 am Sunday, August 30, 2026 When The Honorary Oysterville Militia (THOM) was formed to acquire a cannon — a replica 1842 mountain howitzer built in Coolville, Ohio — it was with the express purpose of replacing a 19th century cannon that had been used by early residents to mark singular occasions and celebrations. It arrived in Oysterville in the summer of 2004 in plenty of time to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the oldest pioneer settlement on the western shore of Willapa Bay.
