This is a piece I wrote for the newly published volume Ayont the Thistle, celebrating the centenary of Hugh MacDiarmid’s (né Christopher Murray Grieve) famous poem A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle. It’s worth reading the poem, written in lallans Scots, for its wonderful sticky prosody and galloping imagery.
