Dear Reader,This was the second little red jumper that I knitted for the cafe order number project (if you’re not sure what my red jumper project was, please go back to the September 23rd post and read how it all came about) and I wrote a very short adaptation of a well-known fairy tale to go with it. <a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ic8V!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2

Knitting Opens Door to Illustration (opens the original)

    Excerpt

    Read excerpt

Dear Reader, would you imagine that a first illustration commission could come to life because of knitting? I never did. I was a knitter long before being an illustrator and initially I didn’t consider mixing the two crafts together; I had never seen any books illustrated with yarn so it just didn’t occur to me to try it. Thank you readers for be

Dear Reader, welcome back to Stitching Picture Books! I hope you had a good summer break and didn’t suffer too much from the heat. I’ve been in the UK visiting friends and family doing holiday things alongside a very slimmed down work schedule. Thank you for answering my questions in my last post about how you read my newsletter (and for suggesting some great books that I look forward to reading too), after your responses I’ve been thinking hard about how I write this newsletter. It isn’t working

Summer Reading and a Question for You (opens the original)

    Excerpt

    Read excerpt

Dear Reader, this last week I’ve been looking at a lot of books, how lovely! I’ve been choosing some summer reading for me as I’m going to the UK on Friday to spend some time with friends and family. The world feels a difficult place right now so I chose ‘How to Stand Up to a Dictator’ by Maria Ressa, to help me be more forewarned and forearmed, and ‘DJ Bambi’ by Audur Ava Ólafsdóttir because I love all of her books and really enjoy her gentle, moving stories and beautiful writing.Caro lettore,
