Just a few days ago, I returned from Fuzhou, China. Fuzhou is the capital of Fujian Province. It’s on the coast of China, across the Taiwan Strait from Taipei, Taiwan. The climate is tropical, very hot and humid, with lots of rain. <img alt="" class="s

In about a week and a half, I’ll be on my way to China. I’m going to Fuzhou for a workshop with my Taiji teacher, Master Wang Fengming. It will be a relatively short trip, but I’m sure very interesting. I hope to earn an International Taiji Teacher’s certificate.Sound the Gong: Music and Movement is a reader-supported publication. They also sell ice cream….But seriously, I’ll never make fun of trombone players again, guys, at least not until the next opportunity.Sound the Gong: Music and Movement is a reader-supported publication. I’ve introduced this piece before, and recently I’ve been working on it again as part of a larger project. This tune is particularly challenging because it’s in 7/4 meter. I’m basing the 7/4 on Rupak Tal, which is a rhythmic cycle used in Indian classical music. It’s counted 3-2-2, three beats, then two and two.
