    On Thursday, July 25, the Snow Creek District Missionary Baptist Association held its inaugural Back to School Citywide Giveaway at Wiggins Community Center. More than 300 students, parents and grandparents were in attendance as they enjoyed refreshments and heard speakers from Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention, Barbers Against Bullets, local ministers and mental health counselors shared messages to equip students with the assistance and items they will need for a successful school year.

    At 7 p.m. Friday, the Miss Volunteer program has its preliminary competition at the Oxford Performing Arts Center for those who have placed in local competitions. Several visitors who are involved in the Miss Volunteer organization were recognized by members of the Calhoun County Commission at the Thursday meeting.
