I watched Krisha, the first feature length film by Trey Edward Shults, because I like drug movies. They take me back, but not like they used to. When I was a teenager I saw a documentary on HBO called Dope Sick Love. It was the type they only showed past midnight. Drug addicts, like nudity, are obscene. It openly showed couples shooting heroin into each other’s arms, and it all took place by my mother’s apartment, downtown. My mother was no longer shooting heroin at this point - she’d moved on to doctors - and in a way it felt like an insight into my past.
