I’ve been following roots, tracing them as deep as they go, sorting the roses from the blackberries, the former to keep and the latter to dig up, toss, and fill its hole with new soil. I keep saying blackberries contain poems: they’re the most tenacious, invasive, delicious, violent, irritating, and beautiful berry. When Søren and I moved onto my grandfather’s land, this place was full of them. In June they’re green and thicken with leaves, fanning out white flowers that crown each vine. Bright
