Next week, along with Rachel Comey, Joumana Khatib, and Christine Smallwood, I’m reading some of Rosalyn Drexler’s work at 25 Greene Street. October 6, 6pm. It’s part of the launch for Hagfish’s republication of her 1974 novel The Cosmopolitan Girl, “an outrageous comedy that upends the promise of heterosexual love and lampoons the enduring American tradition of ceding attention to grifters and blowhards.”Now, it’s about to be October, which means my novel <a href="https://www.penguinrandomhouse

One of my favorite things to do while looking at fashion week photos roll in is finding their archival references on resale apps. There’s no real reason; I’m not trying to prove anything about history repeating: of course it does, and in some cases should. “Who lives here now?” someone (I honestly forget who) asked, in a rarely opened room of Palazzo Chupi on Thursday, at a 30th anniversary party for the Swedish brand Acne Studios. I pointed behind us, past two baby grand pianos, to one of several wall-sized Warhols, each an 80s portrait of the place’s owner and designer, Julian Schnabel. “But isn’t he dead?”I paused, second-guessing my own recall. “He… directed a movie that’s out now?” Schnabe

Shopping that is Real (opens the original)

My parents, who were always broke, successfully instilled in their children that a strong “work ethic” would get us far in life—”life” being key here, since it has really only gotten me places outside of work. For example, I can only assume that it is mostly to such an “ethic” that I might owe this summer’s invitations to go sailing around Greece, plant-sit in Paris, and then stay for a week in a 13th century chateau on 12 acres outside of Le Mans, whose moat-surrounded field needed weeding, gar
