I had no Sumi-e classes in August. Right before summer break, the local shrine asked us to submit some artwork. The shrine will make our artwork into a paper lantern and present it at the local festival. The class members each volunteered. I painted hydrangeas, which is what I had been working on for these couple of months. In mid-August, on the day of the festival, I visited the temple to see how it turned out.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch

The city temperature sometimes appears on the news as having “dangerously high temperatures.” To avoid heatstroke while we move outdoors to go to class, our Sumi-e teacher decided to take a month off in August. So I am practicing on my own for a month.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.co
