    For much of June and into July, thick robe of heat has swept over Europe and smothered us. In the morning and evening the roses and lavender smiled, but the middle of the day was something to get through with fans and water and extra showers. This year, I learned that Midsummer isn’t the same as Solstice, and that the British date for Midsummer is the same day as National Fairy Day, which seems appropriate. I didn’t have the energy to do anything to mark it, but maybe next year I can prepare. A
