Ten years ago, I moved to Washington —my fourth state in two years. I drove cross country solo, with a broken ankle and a van full of children while my soldier husband was on the other side of the world. It was a long three-day drive. But when we pulled down my road, I felt like I was driving onto a suburbia movie set. The brightly colored trees lined the neighborhood streets with tall evergreens rising up behind. The falling yellow leaves swirled in the breeze. I felt like I was coming home.<a
