Three blinks and it’s the end of July, this week the gap between the teeth of monsoon season from which I will soon be pulled out of New Mexico, its dry maw begging to drool, and I’m on the brink of twenty.It’s Sunday afternoon, and a roadrunner has found its way into the backyard, under the gate and onto the patio, where I’m reading in the sun. Its tailfeathers bob up and down as its regal head swivels, surveying the land, from the immediate gilded steps to the wilting hibiscus tree to the bone
