My wife is picking up the kids this fine Wednesday evening. I’m making dinner, something easy tonight, maybe pasta and sauce. I put on my apron, turn my Bluetooth speaker on and choose some spiritual jazz like Pharoah Sanders’ “Morning Prayer.” No kids no wife. All jazz. I crack open a cold tall boy of local IPA. I was awakened last night at 4 am by a man in a shed. He lives next door, in the back yard of a modest three-story apartment building. He was coughing an insidious guttural cough.
