Writing this newsletter-post* made me contemplate the derivation of the abbrev inspo. Where and when did this abbrev enter our collective vocabulary? From my in-depth research 🙂 I discovered inspo has been in use for over 20 years, especially in social media. The Cambridge Dictionary officially added it in 2025.But enough about words for the moment—let’s get to some art.Hubby & I have one(!) Coulter Hibiscus growing in our yard. It’s a native wildflower that blooms only once or twice a year, with

Today’s post will be a tiny one, because I’m busy attending the (virtual) 8th annual Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference (more on that below). In summer Hubby & I often see rows of tiny (approx. 1.5mm long each) arthropod eggs on our windows, brick walls, and plants. One of the challenges (and fun) for me in keeping a Perpetual Journal and Illustrated Journal is figuring out how to illustrate the same subject differently on different pages. Take, for example, the topic of our summer rains: on my PJ page I shared last week I depicted a typical monsoon storm with its sideways rain. In my IJ page below I visually represented summer rainfall with a 10-day rain chart.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!kRGV!,
