I crouch beside the river. Sing! I’ve been with this river for a few days and I’m desperate for something magical to happen. I have been walking beside it, hearing about its flows through time and place; I have been on it in a boat, wielding my paddle first frantically and then proudly; I have been in it, legs trembling and courage buckling under the force of its pull. I have been listening, listening, listening. But beside it now, I am again compelled to silence. Sing! It’s becoming a problem.H
