Dear Nikki,I’m so excited for you to see the world anew! Takes a bit of getting used to, in my experience. Mind you, I had to wait 6 weeks in between surgeries—I think that was normal back in the day—but it meant taking out one lens in my glasses or wearing one contact lens, both of which were very trying! Today was filled with phone calls—old clients, new clients, long convos. I combined collage with watercolour today and I’m really happy with the result. Again, the goal was to loosen up—not in

    Splooch Pooch (opens the original)

H Sarah - yesterday, I had extra blue and purple paint left over after I painted the sky. Hate to waste paint (and, knowing how useful random backgrounds have been), I splooched the extra paint around on a fresh sheet of paper: <img alt="" class="sizing-norm

Writing by moonlight and some stuff from a drawer (opens the original)

Hi Sarah - well, these past few days lying around have been weird as heck. I am not used to lying around. I’ve discovered some cool new podcasts (The Lonely Palette, for example) and had some strange fever dreams and accomplished pretty much nothing useful. Except, healing. Conkers with Kai and mountains with map (opens the original)

    Excerpt

    Read excerpt

Hi Nikki,I hope you are feeling better than you were this morning. I revised for another half an hour, trying to fix a fairly big glitch. I also had some thoughts about Thornton, which we should discuss when we get to the next stage.I spent a few hours with Kai today, collecting leaves to turn into leaf mulch, going to two parks and eating ice cream. Oh, and collecting conkers, which he has been doing since he could walk. Makes me laugh to see him with all his pockets stuffed with conkers. They

Flowers for a friend and a sick message (opens the original)

    Excerpt

    Read excerpt

Hi Nikki,I combined collage with watercolour in an attempt to make a birthday card. I’m unimpressed, so I’ll try again tomorrow. Poured rain here today, had to pull out some warmer clothes and realized that I desperately need to buy new warm things. Decided to go to Mayfair Mall in search of … something I did not find. I loathe malls but shopping options are limited these days. I came away feeling exhausted and disheartened and old. Is it too much to ask that a sweater not be cropped just above
