Looking out on this gloomy, rain-soaked day, it’s almost as if the summer never happened. I’ve had a brilliant few months with Captain Sunshine, touring the length of Britain (if not quite the breadth!) and meeting so many readers and fans of Hotel Flamingo. Living at the seaside means you’re always on holiday whether you want to be or not. It’s quite hard to wander along the seafront on a scorching hot day and not feel happy and free. This is a good problem to have. After all, with this never-ending rainless summer, having a sea breeze and the chance to jump in the waves after a day of work and chauffeuring the kids about is a huge benefit.
