    This essay grew out of preparing for this week’s Slow Read of The Second Sex. A key feature of Beauvoir’s account in Volume II is how girls are taught to orient their lives toward (hetero) marriage. It had me thinking about how marriage appears in and around me—and about how her work has been one source of personal inspo for why I have, and still do, refuse the institution. At any rate, here’s a window into what came up for me.<
