When I launched Tizita—A Memoir of Perseverance and Enchantment last December I was curious about how it would be received. I anticipated it would appeal to people who’d volunteered internationally or those hoping to. I thought adventurous armchair travelers might enjoy journeying with me through Ethiopia, a place most will never be privileged to visit. As a teacher who teaches Canadian Newcomers and who has taught in Asia, I’ve also fantasized about working and living in an African country. So naturally Tizita pulled me in as I read about a fellow Canadian’s experience volunteering in Ethiopia. It is a thoughtful and engaging memoir that kept me up reading
