Lorem Ipsum

I called this blog Lorem Ipsum as a joke at first because I couldn't think of a clever name, but the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a good choice. This is a placeholder for all the stuff I'm thinking about.

Sunday Book Club (opens the original)

    Excerpt · Neutral tone

    Read excerpt

I haven’t done a Sunday Book Club in ages, and today I’m not going to do it in the way that I’ve done it before because it feels like there’s too much to catch up on? Which is dumb because you don’t need to know every single book I’ve read since I last wrote one of these. But you know how it gets when you haven’t done something for a long time and then it starts to feel like pressure that you need to do one but you don’t know where to start? No, just me? Anyway, for now, this is what I feel like

Insert Clever Title Here (opens the original)

    Excerpt

    Read excerpt

You lovely people deserve more from me than the detritus of my brain, but I’m swimming in a sea of malaise, ennui (are those the same? I think they are sisters, not twins, as people like to say), anxiety, regret, anger, and overstimulation, so instead you get . . . this. (Imagine an arrow pointing down.)I can tell that I am overstimulated when I start to be simply overcome with rage at small things that happen. My hair getting caught in my purse strap. My purse being too heavy. Dropping somethin

    Miscellanea (opens the original)

    Excerpt

    Read excerpt

We live in a very wooded neighborhood, which is part of why we picked it. There are gorgeous old growth hardwoods that are glorious in the fall and there’s a creek that runs through it. We have lots of wildlife living among us, including deer, rabbits, foxes,1 and supposedly a wild pig one time, though I never saw it. We had a box turtle living in our yard for a while. Our neighbor has a bullfrog in their decorative pond. But it’s deer we see most, as we have actual herds of deer living among us

    Sadness Worms (opens the original)

    Excerpt · Critical tone

    Read excerpt

I’ve had a version of this post in my drafts folder for several months now. I have been wanting to write about it but it has felt too sad. I swing back and forth between wanting to write about my feelings and lean into full Sad Girl (TM) and wanting this place to be somewhere people want to be. Like, life is hard and I don’t want to bring us all down, man. We’ve got enough to worry about, you know? I know that ignoring all the terrible things that are happening doesn’t make it better but also at

A Mentee Update: The New School Year (opens the original)

    Excerpt

    Read excerpt

I mentioned a few weeks back that my mentee is at a new school this year and so far I’ve seen him three times since school started. I was a little nervous, and still am, about knowing what the rules and expectations are in the new school. For example, I could tell that the custodians were seriously annoyed last week because we came back to the cafeteria late and put J.’s lunch tray in a recently emptied trashcan. BUT! I asked where to put it going forward and now we know. I also don’t know his c
