The Cutting Room Floor (opens the original)
Read excerpt
There’s a song I’ve been mentally tinkering with for so long it’s starting to annoy me. It’s feels like when you’ve slid the key into a lock but you just can’t quite turn it enough to open the door. One day it will apparently be a funny but poignant countryesque ballad where each verse ends with the line ‘Most of my best work ends up on the cutting room floor’. If it doesn’t end up abandoned on the cutting room floor that is. Not every flower gets to bloom.<p class="cta
Dream Girls (opens the original)
Read excerpt
In June 1958, a seventeen year old girl in Hamburg made her own dream come true, by walking across a line up of wine bottles en pointe, dressed as a cat, complete with a furry tail. Who Told You Butter Was Evil? (opens the original)

I was asking my bandmate Sam how his toddler son was the other day and he told me ‘I think he thinks most people have got a band, which is nice’.My oldest son once told his Year 2 class that his father ‘made adult films, for adults’ and my youngest son, when pressed on what I did, replied ‘She rehearses’.My darling husband seems to have a deep-seated long-held belief in the inherent perils of butter. I only need to think about butter and reach for a knife and he somehow reads my mind and is sudd
The Last Lessons Of The Never Ending Dolly Parton (opens the original)

I don’t need to add anything to the beautiful explosion of love for Dolly that has been everywhere we turn for the past few days, I know you know. But there’s something more we could all take home a little learning from - let’s call ‘em Dolly’s death lessons.Loose Connections is a reader-supported publication.
