The Walls Talk (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Mrs. Vick is seventy and eccentric and had spent decades collecting. When I took over her art room I inherited an archive — posters pulled from estate sales, the kind of collecting that only makes sense to someone who already knows the whole shape of art history and wants to hand as much of it as possible to whoever comes after her. Choosing which ones to hang felt less like decorating a classroom and more like leaning into maximalism on purpose. The more the better. Give them food for thought.
Some Things Teach You Slowly (opens the original)
Read excerpt
This quilt started as a thought experiment. I’d been captivated by photos of red and white quilts from the Noteworthy show in Houston — friends had gone, shared images, talked about it for years. It’s legendary in the quilting world. I wanted to know what a Folk Fibers red and white would look like. That was the whole brief.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!V-wq!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.
