Read excerpt

White Venice and the Forgotten Malvasia of Tuscany (opens the original)
Read excerpt
In Venice, white begins with stone and light. It is the colour of Istrian stone, veined marble, and surfaces shaped by water, salt and time. During summer, when the sun strikes the façades more directly, these pale tones become brighter, the veins of the stone emerge, and the city reveals the beauty of its material.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!TH2-!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.
