The Boothbay Region High School boys cross-country team (122) finished fourth out of 11 teams at the Sept. 24 meet, hosted by Gardiner High School, at the University of Maine at Augusta XC course. Winthrop (43), Maranacook (72) and Dirigo (117) finished first through third. Finishing first and sixth overall for the BRHS team among the 136 runners in the 3.1 mile race was senior AJ Crocker with a time of 18:21.28. Overall top finisher was Dirigo senior William Morris with a time of 16:59.89. BRHS

Andy Rooney (1919-2011) was a well-known journalist and essayist whose columns we featured for years in this newspaper. He was a friend of former publishers Howard and Marylouise Cowan. His columns used to arrive via the U.S. Postal Service and we usually had a choice of two or three columns to publish. Mr. Rooney – he also appeared on “60 Minutes” for several years – gave this newspaper national exposure during one of his TV spots, saying the Boothbay Register was one of his favorite newspapers
