This came to me one afternoon, harking back to some forty years ago when repressed memories of a violent time began to appear to me in incomprehensible forms, along with the conviction that something had happened that I could not remember. While it doesn’t seem immediately germane to the topic of kindness and courage or keeping the lights on more generally, it also shows the way the mind opens up old doors as it expands into a new and fearsome task. I mentioned the book/course of action I am working on. Here is my introduction to the project. The title is of course a working title, but more and more I am thinking the link between kindness and courage are essential to how one has to work to stay human. I use the word “through” rather than “in” because the point as I see it is to carry the essence of our better nature forward. Not to be discouraged if resistance fails, but to keep alive the best of human beliefs to motivate and guide whatever
