Yes, you can cook your lettuce — and it's delicious (opens the original)

Summer, a season of good eats and fresh produce, has been tainted by a rampant parasitic outbreak that’s made us all scared to indulge in a generous plate of Caesar salad. Within a few short weeks, an ongoing outbreak of Cyclospora, a foodborne parasite that can contaminate raw fruits and vegetables — and lead to several unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms — has fueled a nationwide panic. Bagged salad mixes and kits, which have been linked to previous outbreaks in the United States and Canada,
Is 5 cups of coffee a day too much? (opens the original)

Have you ever been judged for how many cups of coffee you drink on the daily? If so, you may be thrilled to know that drinking more than a cup of caffeine — even two or three cups — is totally safe. That’s according to a new statement from the American Heart Association, published Monday in its flagship peer-reviewed scientific journal “Circulation.” The latest research found that drinking up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day, which is equivalent to up to five 8-ounce cups of caffeinated cof

As of July 13, the U.S. Centers

Dates are saccharine — they’ve got rich, prominent notes of honey, caramel and warm vanilla, which are indeed delectable, yet can be pretty intense on the palate. They are sticky and chewy, each bite of fruit managing to get stuck in between the tightest crevices of your teeth. They are fleshy. And they are undeniably wrinkly. Dates don’t deserve this kind of vitriol
