Sukkah vibes, the good kind and the bad kind (opens the original)
Read excerpt
All week I’ve tried to get my sons — who had a three-day ‘gesher’ this week, the Education Ministry school vacation ‘bridge’ between Yom Kippur and Sukkot — to build the sukkah and put up the decorations, but no luck so far. I tried not to nag, and hey, it’s not my fault they ended up doing most of it in the hot midday sun on Friday.Share

What I do love is the atmosphere at this event. It’s exciting to see the growing number of Israeli distillers, at this point outnumbering the visiting Scottish and Japanese distilleries on hand, and to watch the tremendous mix of people who show up to the event.Th
Holding onto summer with mangoes (opens the original)

There were many comments about last week’s post, in which I wrote about the certain sadness I feel about friends leaving Israel — it’s a conversation that keeps going every time I get together with someone. This week as well.ShareBut, today? It’s all about mangoes.</
The recent wave of emigration? It feels personal (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The topic that keeps coming up in conversations of late is about Israelis leaving Israel. Everyone knows someone. My manicurist’s son lives in Phuket, while a young family from our shul has been living in India for the last three years, moving to Thailand during monsoon season.Several friends of mine moved back to the States over the last year, each family for different personal reasons and to different states, and Iranian rocket attacks and incessant war helped make those decisions.Subscribe n
