Hello, friend!Today I am thinking of all the people who are far from me. Friends and family and people I only know through the internet but love. And people who have passed but are still with me. And people who were gone before I was even born, but who helped shape me through their writing and art and ephemera they left behind. I’m thinking of all the people who’ve shaped me in big and small ways, and about how they are never truly gone. And that might explain my drawing for this week (which Pur

hello, friend!Right now I have a small orange kitten on my lap so I (legally) cannot move because this is the law of small orange cats. An hour ago I was finishing this sketch and Purrrrsy was chasing Dorothy Barker across the couch and jumped on my pen three different times, each time causing some errant line I could not erase. Hello, friend!I’m still pulling myself out of the morass of this latest depression and every day feels a little better (KNOCK ON ALL THE WOOD) but still I have days when I feel like I’m trapped in quicksand of the brain. I wanted to draw a collection of spiderwebs to illustrate this, but turns out I am not good at making spiderwebs, which is a little bit insulting, because as my father once said:"You don't have to go to some special private school to be an artist. Just look at the intricate beau

Friend! This week I was working on a drawing that I got really wrong and then I doubled down to try to make it work and in the end I spent so many hours on a piece that makes me go, “Huh. What even is this?” And so I decided to put it down for a bit and instead I made a quick little drawing of an alligator I saw recently. Alligators are always extra terrifying to me (because I have that phobia of things hiding underwater) but then I saw a video of an alligator just floating around in the most awk
