The official organization of Grandview township took place in August of 1873 at the first town meeting in the home of Jacob Thomas. The village of Grandview was founded in the spring of 1878 and the town site was plotted by the railroad on July 5, 1878. Grandview was the name chosen for the town site by the early settlers to describe the expansive rolling prairies along with the sun rises and sun sets. LCHS has a book in its collection that is a great resource for finding out the origin and historical significance of place names in Minnesota. The book, "Minnesota Geographic Names" by Warren Upham was first published by the Minnesota Historical Society in 1920. A reprint edition was published in 1969, and the copy the museum has is a second printing of the reprint edition in 1979. Dr. Harper Workman persuaded Mrs. Pat Summers to set up space in her home at South and 6th Street in around 1910 for surgery and rooms for care.
