NYFF Musings (opens the original)
Read excerpt
On my way to the first day of NYFF screenings, I thought about when I saw Todd Field’s Tar. It was such a regular day, slightly overcast but somehow still warm out, the wind gently pressing against my anticipation. Tar did not disappoint. I went with an ex-girlfriend of mine and we had been enthusiastic at the possibility of seeing Tar, because we are both fans of Cate Blanchett. Macklemore Has More Guts Than Guys I Like (opens the original)
Read excerpt
If white guilt had a definition in the dictionary, then Macklemore’s text message to Kendrick Lamar after the winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album would appear right next to the word. A couple of hours after Macklemore won the award for The Heist, his independent rap album produced by his collaborator Ryan Lewis, Macklemore delivered a sort of apology to Kendrick Lamar. “You got robbed,” the text read. “I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird.” He added, “I robbed you.”
