I’m reading a best-selling literary novel because I loved the author’s debut and I wanted to buy a hardcover to support an independent bookstore. I figured this novel would be an easy summer read, a hammock of a tale, and it probably is, but I’m not gripped by it. I don’t yearn to get back to its pages.The plot is moving forward, the point of view changes are crisp, and I like the characters. I feel the pressure of the bigger political world impacting the small community where the story is set.
