2 weeks in Jamaica: Things I did and didn’t do (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Two weeks in a small Jamaican town few people outside of Jamaica (or the diaspora) have ever heard of? Perfect. At least for me. The Adisa Ancestry Artists Residency (more in a future essay) is located on the outskirts of Linstead, more or less in the middle of the island. The neighborhood is quiet, save for people’s dogs and the occasional truck passing by on the main road. In a bungalow set in a lush garden, I tapped away on my laptop for up to five hours a day, working on my novel-in-progress

From the air, sargassum mats crossing the Caribbean Sea resemble giant rust-brown sperm, with big heads and flagellum. Imagine the cost of constantly rid

Recommended! The route east from Montego Bay yields amazing views of the sea. Heading south you’re surrounded by lush green hills
Let's just drive (opens the original)

A man and his mother just drove to Belize from Chicago via Mexico. The man, Everett Reynolds, documented the journey on social media. In his videos, he talks about some of the challenges of making this kind of trip. Traffic, construction, unpredictable weather and a series of police and military checkpoints slowed them down, but they made it in what sounds like about five days.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!RLoc!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_p
