This month’s update is both about my tours and an upcoming positive change to this page. Firstly I’ll be running my city centre tour every Sunday in October, starting from the back of the Town Hall at 11am. The walk grew over the summer as extra detail was added, and now lasts two and a half hours (this isn’t as long as it might seem - we don’t go very far, and it is relatively flat and easy). (This post was originally commissioned by the ISRAAC community centre in 2025)When the Sheffield General Cemetery was extended after 1846 the original entrance on the Ecclesall Road side was no longer sufficient, and a new access road was built on the opposite side of the grounds - Cemetery Road. The cemetery was first laid out in 1836 on land described as open countryside, so the road was a blank canvas ready to inevitably be filled in.
