Kirk Ferentz has trouble hiding his emotions. We all know this.I remember the first time I saw Kirk Ferentz cry. It was at the end of Iowa’s victory over Penn State in 2004, a game you might remember as The 6-4 Game.He had good reason to cry: His father had just died, and he’d just created his magnum opus in his grief. Tim Lester opened the first of his two sessions on the ANF Podcast1 with a story from the 2012 Division III football playoffs. Lester was in his fifth season as the head coach of Elmhurst at the time, and led the Bluejays to their first playoff appearance that season. Lester had running back Scottie Williams, winner of the Gagliardi Trophy that season, but it wasn’t Williams or the running game that was the topic of discussion.Elmhurst defeated Coe College in the first round of the play
