late one night, I made the mistake of opening Instagram. When I started this newsletter in 2022, I had named it ‘Grievances from the Grieving’. I was in the throes of grief over losing my mother and the only way that pain was going to make sense was writing about it. My notebooks were filled with scribbles about death and grief. I wrote, scratched out, wrote again how my mother’s absence announced itself in my everyday life. Notes in my phone had a dedicated section for the Substack detailing my pain.
