How an old boyfriends OCD probably has saved my life (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Years ago I had a boyfriend in Ireland who lived right on the boarder of the north + south who had quite server OCD. I didn’t realise it was a real issue till I took up study and lived with him. He was smart, seemed to know a lot brilliant minded eccentric people and could remember every detail but had a side hobby of ‘collecting’ cat tins (I learned later he had an entire ‘outbuilding’ worth collected). He also was an avide reader of newspapers but I soon discovered that the farmhouse 2 spare r
It Started With the Bloody Fridge (opens the original)

The bloody fridge.Far out. It’s been an overwhelming few weeks. Actually, if I’m being truthful, it’s probably been about six monthsOyster Cottage currently has all of its kitchen + pantry sitting on the verandah. The walls have been ripped off, the asbestos is officially gone — I have the signed certificate to prove it — and somewhere in that process shelves disappeared that I absolutely thought were staying. I think things just got so busy that I convinced myself I could do it all. To be honest, I know I can do it all, but standing back its opened up a bigger question of … why do I think I have to and who am I doing it for?Turns out trying to do everything actually kills you creativity. Originally I was looking for lovely light-filled spa

I was looking for a picture of a kitchen tap. Not because I wanted another one—I’d already bought mine and saved plenty of ideas—but because I couldn’t remember where I’d put that one. You know, the perfect one.So I opened Pinterest for the first time in years. There it was.Along with hundreds of other “perfect” taps I’d saved over the last decade. Within minutes I’d managed to save three more taps while looking for the one I’d already saved… promptly overwhelmed myself… and closed the app
The older I get, the less impressed I am by busy people (opens the original)

UPDATE: I found this sitting in my drafts - written on 20th June last month and at the time I was far too busy to post it. Reading it back now, a month later, it now feels like I’m reading someone else’s letter - not mine. So I’m sharing it now as everything’s has changed this week and because sometimes you don’t realise you’re living the end of one chapter…….until you’ve already started the next. <a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!C
