Kansas City’s Liberty Memorial will light up with pictures and film for its 100th (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Liberty Memorial has been on top of the hill across from Union Station standing stately, steadfast and gray for a century. Now, it’s about to get a whole lot more colorful. On each of the next seven weekends, the tower will glow with images of falling water, ascending guardians and war-torn Europe set to loud, powerful music blasting from huge speakers on the north lawn on Memorial Hill. “It's violent, and it's intense,” said National WWI Museum and Memorial President and CEO Matt Naylor. “There
A rural Kansas town considers data center as a big swing to revitalize its economy (opens the original)

OSAWATOMIE, Kansas — Kids take their chances squeezing through the stationary rail cars that regularly cut this small town in two. Sometimes they brave the high, narrow road bridge leading over the tracks. That gives Bret Glendenning, the Osawatomie city manager, worries about how he’ll make things safer. He wonders how the town can afford to fix the once-elegant — now rusty — bridge that spans the Marais des Cygnes River. Or if it’ll ever catch up on basic street maintenance. But the railroad b
Wyandotte County is still recovering after storms killed power. Federal help isn't likely (opens the original)

Now, if the potential beneficiaries weigh in and a judge signs off on the settlement, Jackson County must pay back every bit of the money it overcharged in 2023 and 2024 to all the people who paid extra. Johnson County leads cyclosporiasis cases as parasitic illness explodes across Kansas (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Cyclosporiasis cases in Kansas have jumped more than fivefold in a week. And Johnson County is leading the increase. Last week the Kansas Department of Health and Environment counted 55 cases of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by the cyclospora parasite. The latest numbers from Wednesday show 289 known cases in Kansas, 95 in Johnson County alone. Wyandotte County recorded 11 cases. Dr. Dana Hawkinson at the University of Kansas Health System says that’s likely an undercount. “I thin
