Recently I finished an Anishinaabe style Frame Drum built for a giveaway. My friend Mallory, a Maine Guide, gave me a raw deerskin he harvested last fall and I processed the raw deerskin into rawhide. Drums cannot use any rawhide, it has to be made from a fresh (or frozen) hide. Fresher is best. The Anishinaabe style Frame Drum requires a single deer hide to make, it uses the entire hide, not a little piece. I guess you could use goat skin, but elk is a little weak, and buffalo too thick.
