    What a joy it was to learn about this temple and the people serving in Colonia Juarez! This is the smallest temple in the church! (6,800 sq ft) and it is the location where President Hinckley came up with the idea for the small temples. He said they would serve area where membership was small - and likely to stay that way - and that describes the Mexico colonies perfectly. The Church sent families and missionaries to northern Mexico in 1885 to find a place for a settlement, eventually 8 colonies

    The Anchorage Alaska Temple is the 2nd small temple, built quickly in 1998, and dedicated in 1999, it serves all the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Alaska. Originally 6,800 sq ft, within 4 years it already needed expansion to 11,900 sq ft. And now they are building an entirely new temple next to this one that will be 30,000 sq ft! The members of the church love serving in the temple! The new temple will open in June 2027. Announcement: 4 October 1997 Groundbreaking
