Salvete, patres subscripti.The second of Cicero’s post-exile speeches was delivered to an assembly of the People not long after his first speech to the Senate. The exact date of the speech is uncertain, and the text of the speech itself is unhelpfully non-specific, probably because, like the first speech, it was written before Cicero actually got back to Rome.Being the person he is, Cicero opens the speech with a single sentence that in Latin is 127 words long.<p
