The courage to honor dignity (opens the original)
Read excerpt
I recently visited my parents at their retirement community in Florida. During my stay, I sat in on a meeting for the caregivers who work in the memory care wing where my mother now lives. One of the aides mentioned buying large bibs for a woman she cares for. The woman sometimes spills food on her blouse while eating or being fed, and the aide wanted to help keep her clothes clean. Another staff person wondered aloud whether the bib might violate their standards around dignity.I was intrigued.
