    Growing up fat, I learned two contradictory truths. I am both hypervisible and invisible at the same-dang-time. My size, rolls, and folds made me uncomfortably visible and that hyper-visibility almost always meant scrutiny. My size also made me feel invisible because my feelings were ignored when I was bullied for my size, so I learned to shrink and to take up less space. As a fat woman, I learned that my body could be impossible not to see and simultaneously something people refused to look at.
