In my hometown of Baltimore, there is an annual art contest called the Sondheim Prize. One of the perks is that the five Finalists get their work exhibited at The Walters Art Gallery (one of several outstanding galleries in town). I try to see the exhibit every year, and it always leaves me both impressed and with lots to think about (which is kind of the point of good art, yes?). In the artists notes for an exhibit by Thea Canlas, I was struck by the statement
