Omaha Fire Investigators say lightning caused a fire in a two-and-a half story, multi-family dwelling at 42nd and Cuming Streets. On approach to the scene Monday evening, firefighters reported they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof and attic space. Due to the heavy fire conditions and workload, an additional engine was dispatched to assist. Two firefighters were evaluated and checked out for heat exhaustion while on scene. (Lincoln, NE) -- Two voter-approved medical cannabis initiatives have been upheld by the Nebraska Supreme Court. In a unanimous ruling Friday, the court found opponents failed to prove enough signatures should be disqualified to invalidate the measures. The lawsuit, led by former State Senator John Kuehn and later joined by constitutional officeholders Secretary of State Bob Evnen and State Attorney General Mike Hilgers, alleged widespread fraud and notary misconduct during petition circulation.
